UGM’s Chemical Engineering Lecturer Represents Indonesia in the ASEAN Science and Technology Fellowship Program

UGRG’s researcher and UGM’s Chemical Engineering Lecturer, Dr. Himawan Tri Bayu Murti Petrus was chosen as Indonesia’s representative in a program organized by USAID and the ASEAN Foundation

The ASEAN Science and Technology (S&T) Fellowship is a program organized by USAID’s in collaboration with the ASEAN Foundation as a forum for ASEAN country fellows to work in government agencies that handle science and technology policies in their respective countries. This program lasts for 1 year from 1 July 2019, with 17 fellows from all ASEAN countries who were accepted in the fifth ASEAN S&T Fellowship.

Since its founding in 2014, the ASEAN S&T Fellowship has sought to support and encourage young scientists in ASEAN countries to work in synergy with policy makers (governments) in integrating various ASEAN priority strategies and regional cooperation. Through this program, people are appointed to the relevant ministries in their respective countries to continue their research with the topic of their expertise to realize and advance ASEAN priority strategies.

Two scientists from Indonesia

Dr. Himawan Tri Bayu Murti Petrus together with Dr. M. Ikhlasul Amal from LIPI were Indonesian representatives in this annual event. As a researcher of UGRG UGM and a lecturer at the Chemical Engineering Department UGM, Dr. Bayu has a deep commitment to develop mineral processing that is more environmentally friendly and sustainable in Indonesia. Under the ASEAN S&T Fellowship program, Dr. Bayu who graduated from UNSW and Kyushu University will focus on a comprehensive management plan for coal combustion residues. Congratulations on carrying out your new mandate, sir!
